Benefits of heat acclimation

Sauna’s are all the rage in the world of endurance training these days. Why? Because heat exposure has several evidence-based benefits of following heat acclimation protocols. These benefits show up in 8 different facets:

  • Heart: Decrease in heart rate, Increase stroke volume (more blood is pumped per beat)
  • Core: Decrease in core temperature
  • Skin: Decrease in skin temperature, Increase in skin blood flow sensitivity, Increase in maximum skin blood flow
  • Muscle: Increase muscle glycogen sparing, Decrease in oxygen consumption
